In 2002, we started Elk County Outfitters with the idea that if we drew an elk tag and the elk were in a part of the state we knew nothing about, would we know where to go? Would we be able to access private property? Would we have the time available to learn the area and find elk? How would we get the animal out of the woods, if we were fortunate enough to get one? We kept coming up with the same answer: the people lucky enough to draw the tag of a lifetime would want, even NEED, help. So with that in mind, ECO was born.
The early years of the hunt were a real learning experience for us. Lining up lodging, organizing meals, and learning hunt zone boundaries were just some of the details we had to cover. We did a lot of knocking on doors to learn where state grounds ended and private property began, building relationships with the landowners. These relationships have developed into long standing friendships with many of the landowners. It's one of the real gifts of being involved with this hunt.
The growth of ECO is a direct result of the men and women that are now part of the Elk County Outfitter family. Many of our clients are direct referrals from previous hunters or landowners. In fact, many of our ECO guides and assistants are previous hunters and hunter guests! We have forged excellent relationships with the DCNR, PA Game Commisssion, Keystone Elk Country Alliance, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; and, we have sought out and secured exclusive permission to hunt more private ground than we could have ever imagined! These accomplishments allow us to give our clients the best possible experience.
264 ECO clients have taken 255 elk.
