There are a lot of variables for you to consider before the PA elk hunt. If you choose to go with an outfitter, there are still many decisions to make. From health and dietary needs to butchering and taxidermy prep, and everything in between, you can rest assured that we, at Elk County Outfitters will work hard to meet the needs of each individual hunter. Our goal is for you to have the greatest experience without worrying about the details.
We suggest starting with one of the two following "packages".
Please remember, these can be fine tuned to meet your particular needs.
You should plan to arrive the day before your season begins so you are settled into your lodging.
All your meals are included for the duration of your hunt.
Extensive scouting will be done long before you arrive to insure your best opportunity for a successful hunt. Once you have successfully taken your elk, pictures, and in most cases, video is shot. We handle all field care, biological sample taking (the game commission is often conducting different elk studies, and we aid in the study by collecting the necessary tissue samples in the field), extraction of the elk, transportation of you and your elk to the check station, and we accompany you through the question and answer session conducted by the biology and law enforcement departments of the game commission.
We can refer you to a top quality butcher in the area that is experienced in processing elk (pricing can be given to you before the hunt). If you choose to use our local butcher, we will take you and the elk, and assist in making your arrangements. The butchering / processing fee is separate from the guided hunt. If you prefer to take your elk to your own butcher or are planning to process the animal yourself, we will transport your elk from the check station back to elk camp where it will be hung until you are ready to leave. We do not cut and wrap meat, but we will be more than happy to help you get the animal into manageable pieces so that you can transport it for processing.
The weather will definitely make some decisions for you with regards to processing. Many hunters have taken their animal home for processing and returned to elk camp to enjoy a couple days relaxing and reliving their hunt. Remember, you are covered for a week of meals and lodging. Your hunt ends on a Saturday (6 days of hunting) and your meals and lodging end Sunday morning.
This includes everything mentioned above except the meals and lodging.
Nearly every ECO hunter has brought at least one guest, many have brought multiple. We understand how important it is to share these moments with friends and family when possible, and we make every effort to accommodate everyone. Your guests will receive their meals and lodging at a cost of $150.00 per day per guest.
Elk County Outfitters is insured, all guides have state issued guide permits, we carry commercial activities agreements that allow us to take hunters on to state forest & park land, and permits for all the townships that require them.
