Since the reintroduction of elk hunting in Pennsylvania in 2001, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has awarded hunters the available bull and cow elk tags through a random lottery from among the applicants.
Lucky applicants are typically allotted 6 days (Monday-Saturday) beginning in late October through the first week of November in which to hunt Pennsylvania's Elk Country.
Those who do not draw a bull or cow tag for the General Season may draw for the new Archery Season cow or bull tag or the Late Season Cow or bull tag.
For those who do not successfully draw in a given year, the Pennsylvania Game Commission allows for accumulating bonus points toward the next year's drawing.
